As we move into warmer weather and prepare for summer, we hope you have enjoyed all of the wonderful spring happenings around Suncoast PCA. More great socials this year and a new location in April. Bert Smith outdid themselves again for the Poker Run and Driver’s Education was another over-the-top experience. Our friends at Karting4Kids raised an amazing $65,000 for All Children’s Hospital! Congratulations!

With the sun-kissed skies heralding the arrival of summer on Marco Island, the spirit of community shines as bright as the daylight. It’s a time of year that calls for vigilance amid celebration, a role seamlessly fulfilled by the local fire watch security in Marco Island, a cornerstone in our commitment to safety and service. My uncle, part of this diligent team, often shares stories of safeguarding events like the Suncoast PCA socials, ensuring every joyous occasion remains not just a memory of fun but also of well-protected moments. His tales of readiness resonate with the same fervor that fuels the Poker Run, a testament to the unfailing preparedness that underscores every vibrant gathering on our beloved island.

After sharing and planning with the European PCA in 2014, there are some good things happening at PCA National. One such initiative is the porscheclubnews.com online newsletter. Check it out! It is chocked full of great Porsche information such as travel, updates on new P cars, tech news, racing news and much more. This initiative has moved this online newsletter from a PDF format to a slick interactive online experience.

Do you ever get excited when new models are introduced? This year is shaping up to be a banner year with Porsche. PCNA celebrated the world premiere of the new Boxster Spyder at the New York International Auto Show. The distinctive design of the Boxster Spyder includes stylistic elements that recall the legendary sports and race cars from Porsche. For example, as a tribute to the 718 Spyder from the 1960s, the new Boxster Spyder has two prominent streamlined bulges that extend down along the long rear lid behind the headrests. The partially manually operated, lightweight top is suitable for everyday use and brings to mind roadsters from the past, while the fins that stretch back to the rear lend the vehicle’s silhouette its characteristic design. The front and rear end of the model were taken from the Cayman GT4. But best of all, it is only available with a manual transmission. But for you who are more ‘pure of heart,’ Porsche, for the first time, introduced a GT sports car which is based on the Cayman and includes components of the 911 GT3.The new member of the Porsche GT family is the Cayman GT4 which celebrated its world premiere at Geneva International Motor Show. I’m looking forward to not only seeing these cars up close and personal, but seeing them on the track in Driver’s Education!

Did you know that you can live out your passion for classic cars? Well, you can! Recently introduced: Special Training for Classic Cars and being promoted as driving just like in the good old days. The idea is to bring vintage motor enthusiast and experts together for a special event targeting devoted owners of Porsche vehicles up to the 993 model. Participants can enjoy one entire day full of classic design, automotive passion and, naturally, plenty of driving pleasure. During the training, you learn how to confidently handle your classic car – with no intervention at all from modern safety systems such as ABS, PSM, power-assisted steering or traction control. You are accompanied by Porsche instructors who are passionate about classic sports cars. Each sequence of corners so fiercely contested in numerous races will be explained to you in detail – and then you get to try them out for yourself. The course is designed to help you explore the performance potential of your classic sports car, step by step and lap for lap.

Be sure to attend our last Driver’s Education before the summer heat at Sebring on May 9 and then AutoCross the following weekend with our friends at Gold Coast. Our social is being held in Tampa at Jackson’s with the Porsche Brunch Bunch. See you there!
