As we leave our perfect spring weather and jammed-packed calendar, we gently move into summer and lay back a little more.  If you’re taking a drive vacation this year, I hope you’ll be taking it in your beautiful Porsche.

I am finding it difficult to adequately recognize all of the people and the things our wonderful Suncoast volunteer members do to continue offering a stellar lineup of events for you. After the wonderful April DE I received an email from Rick Meyer, our awesome DE Registrar.  It was an event follow-up and sent to all of us who had participated in the event.  I haven’t quoted someone in the President’s message but thought his first and last paragraphs were worth sharing.  It said, “Still basking in the afterglow from the weekend, I wanted to thank everyone for a great weekend. This one seemed to come together and it was truly special. I kept hearing feedback from students about how great the instructors were, and at the same time, the instructors were talking about how great a bunch of students we had!” At the end of his email he states, “YOU make these events! It’s the people.” The timing of his email was serendipity as I had been thinking these precise thoughts about Rick.  He is one of the ones that makes our DE truly spectacular and falls right into the center of “It’s the people.” slogan that we so aptly use in PCA.

John Vita, our Safety Chair and board member, and his group, Vita Vining Hermann Denton Group hosted the Saturday night BBQ at DE in April.  It’s billed as the President’s night and I was truly surprised with the presentation of a wonderful bottle of Veuve Clicquot.  (Thank you, John!)  In addition to honoring the current and past presidents at the event, also recognized were those who work long hours for our fun.  Thank you, John! The food was fabulous and I am still smiling from all of the fun.

A couple of months ago I had the pleasure of playing a round of golf at the Wentworth Golf  Club with members Bob and Gwen Neale and Sharron Shields.  This was in preparation for the upcoming Porsches and Putters charitable golf tournament being held on November 1.  Mark your calendars to attend this event as it will be another banner event and will continue to grow.  Be on the lookout for more information from Sharron.

May was Rookie Month and our fun continued.  The Rookie Rally was fun as we went through some nice back roads and ended up with lunch, party and awards at Motorworks Brewery in Bradenton.  Thank you Sharron for another fun and wonderful rally! The Rookie theme continued the next day as we had a blast doing the AutoCross at the St. Petersburg College Allstate location.  Brian West is our Competition Chair heading up the area and does a great job!

Check out the calendar for more fun events and don’t miss going to Crystal River with our Porsche Invasion and heading over to Tampa for Date Your Porsche Night at Bahama Breeze.

Speaking of breeze . . . . . as we move into summer,  I hope that your days and nights are filled with soft balmy breezes and that you enjoy the ride.
